And some of the greatest game music ever:

Damn, for a system originally released in 1985 this still kicks butt. I need to pick this up again some day. I miss the games, I miss the music, I miss the Operating System, I miss all the wonderful programs, I pretty much miss everything about it.

  1. Why not get an amiga emulator, like WinUAE? They’re a bit more tricky than PS1, SNES emulators and such because there were multiple builds. I still can’t get Sleepwalker to work :P But I have finished Indiana Jones and the like that I never did back then.
A lot of the old games are still available, though you do have to dig a bit, and companies like LucasArts and Sierra are still about to complain about their particular games being online so you won’t find those easily.

ScummVM also works for the old converted-to-DOS games like MI1 and 2, and Simon the Sorcerer, and the first Legend of Kyrandia with its stupid fire berry maze.

I never did finish Beneath a Steel Sky back when we actually had a working Amiga. A copy protection question popped up mid game and we couldn’t figure out how to answer it.

No Leisure Suite Larry? It’s age protection was to ask you something that occured more than 18 years ago. Or… 28 years ago, now :P What’s more amusing is my parents bought it for me and my sister when we were about 10 because “it’s a game! Our girls are into games! Lets get it!”

  2. I’m covered, emus and all. And I still have about 5 working Amigas. I just got way nostalgic thinking back to those days. And it’s not just the games, everything kicked so much more ass, from the best community ever to programs I still miss to this day. Cheapo drawing programs that could do things that top of the line thousand euro software of today still can’t compete with.
I’m guessing he omitted LSL because it originated on the pc, whereas these are all Amiga originals.

  3. These video compilations are great. Bring back memories from when I would only play SNES emulation.

Those games were great. I wondered what happened? Gameplay was the main focus. Now it’s seems its like the Next-Gen experience and graphics. I would rather have better gameplay than graphics. The new game on PSN PixelJunk Eden is really fun to play even though it doesn’t have any back breaking graphics.

  4. There’s some classic titles in that list and I’ve owned most of them at one time or another.

I too still have an Amiga – an A1200 – which comes out of the attic occassionally when my kids want to play a classic such as Cannon Fodder.

I think that when the Amiga reigned supreme gaming was at it’s highest point with quality games stuffed full of gameplay.

Today’s graphics only serve to gloss over empty experiences, though there are a few exceptions of course.

Work in progress... not home!
Trying to get all/most of the new code working before I start on the eyecandy.
