Voices of the Lifestream

I’ve guess most people in the world (well for gamers) must have ever heard about a game called Final Fantasy. What started as a final desperate move from SquareSoft, resulted into a game uncalled for everything it has made in gaming history. Put the two words “Final Fantasy” on a cup, and you’ll be bound to sell millions of those cups. Now of course that’s also with other games, but still it’s remarkable. What would have happened if Final Fantasy would have failed miserably?

But luckily that’s not the question right now. Final Fantasy is living, so is Square-Enix right now. With some new remakes, and Final Fantasy XIII on it’s way to the PS3 it seems that these games just will be coming forever. And we’re not complaining. But if you look back at 1995-1996, there’s where the real deal started. It’s most famous and praised version of Final Fantasy launched then. Final Fantasy VII.

Omg! Pwnage

Memories…

I really pity you if you haven’t ever played any second of that game. It’s not just a game, it’s a piece of art. I can’t tell, but it seems like you get sucked into a certain mood while playing that game. At least that’s with me. And I believe that’s with plenty of other people too, looking at the milking business Final Fantasy VII has been getting lately. An animated movie, a prequel and a sequel.
Anyway.. the game gets me. Yes.. it even gets me even though it has been released on a NOT-NINTENDO platform. The Playstation had his luck back then. And it seems that if there would ever be a remake (something’s telling me they shouldn’t do it, but still I want it) it would be on PS3. I would end up being crazy enough to buy, steal, rip, get a PS3 as fast as possible with that game. Anyway.. this is not the point!

I could go on talking about this game for hours. It’s truely inspiring and in fact one of the best RPG’s ever. And the other part of the game what blew my mind back then, was the music. It still is magnificent. Most people sure do agree with me if I say this game has some of the best music of all time. Nobuo Uematsu is really a specialist with the choice of music in a game. And it’s all just MIDI. Basic dings and dongs. I can’t remember most MIDI songs/tunes that have actual voices inside though. And somehow this game managed to create this opportunity with the Final Boss Battle (Sephiroth) in the game. The song is called “One Winged Angel” and is performed in most gameconcerts as being one of the best composed music ingame.

Well for the Final Fantasy VII music lovers: (which are plenty of people) “rejoice”! 42 remixers have made the album so called: “Voices of the Lifestream”. An album dedicated to the music in Final Fantasy. They have remixed 45 songs of the game, giving us an estimated 3,5 hours of remixed memories from one of the best games in history. And what’s best about it. It’s totally free.
