Fact: Google’s starting to suck!
Actually, it’s been getting sucky for a while.
Have you noticed the abundance of spammers with Gmail accounts? I’m sure X and Jan have at the verrry least. It’s the new Yahoo/Hotmail! I have never had Yahoo or Hotmail account for the email–used to have/use them for the respective IM clients, though. In fact…I went straight from the dark ages of having addresses through dial-up clients [Icky AOL first and then MSN for like two months] to having a Gmail account back when they were invitation-only. I have an AIM screen name and I don’t use its email, etc. It sucks, it’s all inflated. Simple UI = happiness.
And the spam I’m receiving to my Spam folder has increased drastically in the past six months. I have had my current account with them since I was 15…and I would never get spam. I haven’t signed up for anything new lately, so…I’m not really sure. It’s obnoxious, though.
What’s funny is that Google seems to be doing nothing about it. Phix has a site and there’s been increased spam there, too. He actually emailed the Gmail folks with a list of the spammer addresses and they didn’t even send a form-letter response, to my knowledge.
That’s not a very nice thing to do, Google. Piss people off that like you and you will compromise your plan for World Domination. :x

Nearly 100% of all spammers signing up use gmail, so yeah, I agree. But that’s only a small part of the problem. The fact that people only use them for searching the web also means that the web itself is going down the shitter as search results are manipulated to favour those that game the system.
There was a time when having good content meant showing up higher in the search results.
Yeah.. I block the entire gmail system by default these days.. If somebody can’t join using it that’s their problem.. the public FAQ on my site lists which webmail free services are allowed and which have blanket bans.
If it really starts to piss you off tho and you run your own mail services you could always implement http://cbl.abuseat.org/ and help drive down the sheer amount of spam circulating.. Trouble is nobody seems to care about it.. more interested about a few “pirates” using their paid for bandwidth quite legally.
Having a good and nearly unique site and domain helps get a high search rating .. try juliaskitchen XD
I’m already using spamhaus for my mailserver. It helps a lot, but not enough, even with that I still get about 80-100 a day. Much less than the 2-3000 without it though…
