During my last pregnancy in the third trimester with Evie, I developed hypertension. My blood pressure stayed an average 130/85 and varied a little lower to a lot higher. Fearing that it might be the starting signs of preeclampsia, which I had in my previous pregnancy, my doctor observed me closely for a couple of months and even put me on a beta-blocker called Labatalol. Labatalol was a real pain because it made me feel and act like a depressed zombie most of the time.
So 6 weeks postpartum, before we came back to the Netherlands, the doctor finally pulled me off the Labatalol because my blood pressure reduced significantly. Our flight was a couple days after that and as soon as I got on the plane to Schipol, my stomach, my head and my vision just went to crap. I became extremely sick on the plane ride back and I couldn’t quite understand why. I read this article and it suddenly made sense. Thank goodness for the BBC, neh?
Anyone else ever get ill on planes?
