Yesterday started the 10th Japanese Movie Festival Hamburg (in which I help with organisation and stuff) with the movie Cafe Isobe. At first, I expected some kind of light-hearted comedy like last year, where the first movie was Maiko Haaaan!!!, but I obviously had misjugded the Trailer. It turned out to be a very likeable Story about a father-daughter-relationship with a good eye for the detail and and well timed funny elements. After the death of her Grandfather, Sakikos father opens a coffeeshop named Cafe Isobe, to try something new in his life. He wants his daughter to work as a part-timer there, while she herself doesn’t like the coffeeshop and it’s style from the start. And so the problems unfold… definitely a good movie
