Goddamnit. I’ve never actually finished a landscape painting I’ve started in my entire life, yet suddenly it’s “You can do that, can’t you?”
My mam’s seen some paintings on ebay, those 3 panel landscape ones? And she wants one. But she wants one with my signature in the corner. She’s actually said it’s so that she can boast. Also it means she won’t have to pay £150 for one, though she says she’ll pay me, and I’m not sure if that’s actually a concern for her.
“Ok… so what type of canvases?”
“Like his.”
“…Right. But what size did you want them”
“Look, I’ll show you his!”
(Goddamnit you do not need to see his to tell me what size canvas you want ME to paint!) “You said about 20″x10″, right?”
“Well yeah, but I want to see his to see whether it would look right.”
*smackface*
*15 minutes later* “Oh.. I can’t find his narrow ones… I can only find the 16″ x 20″ ones, so you’d better do them like that.”
*smackface again and goes upstairs*
For goodness sake it’s actually possible to say “I like that idea, can you do something like it?” rather than “I want his work with your signature in the corner”
Though now I’ve seen that people advertise art by the genre, rather than the name of the artist (ie I’d actually have a hope of getting found) it actually looks possible for me to sell some stuff.
Maybe when I’ve handed my work in this year and done Paul’s album covers and whatnot. I’d prefer to do some animation in my spare time, but animation doesn’t sell (not until I’m in the industry or get a very lucky break with some critics anyway)
edit: Ug, mostly landscapes, ones that actually have bids… maybe not then =P
