Damn all this DHCP PPPoE bollocks

So it’s been 2 weeks, waiting for the “7 days” Virgin said we needed to wait for them to disconnect the last tenants who never cancelled their contract, then calling up when they didn’t call back and getting it done semi-instantly when someone else in their building answered the phone, I’m now stuck with my Buffalo router as a bridge.

Which technically shouldn’t be a problem (aside from the cable trailing across the hall because it won’t accept its own adaptor now it’s recognised my comp by cable only, or something., at least until Paul gets his computer. But it’s bugging me. And it defeats the object of paying £60 for a speedy router.

In this case, the term bugging can perhaps be exchanged for “I’ve been reinstalling, googling, swearing and bitching at Paul (sorry) all day trying to figure the damned thing out.”

Apparently my router can’t get a DHCP (address?) from my Virgin router (which works perfectly fine plugged straight into the comp)  and therefore cannot let me access the internet through it, wired or not. I can access it as a router, but otherwise I’m stuck. Apparently I should have a PPPoE from my ISP (Virgin) but I’ve had nothing, postwise, and word on the web is they only support their own router or you go on a £1/min line for general PC Tech support.

If I set it as just an access point, I can, but for some reason or another I then can’t access the router options (through the usual 198.168.whatever). I thought it was because I’d ticked ‘automatic IP’ and it hadn’t told me what this new IP was, but even when I set the IP myself and could access the router, I went to check it sometime later and now I can’t. It can’t be found, apparently. Net works fine, at the moment (as far as I can tell)

Non-access-point-setting, if I try to manually set it up (because it can’t find this unknown DHCP by itself) it wants the DHCP, DNS etc etc and I’m not sure whether that should be the same as my ipconfig (as the Router’s IP is different to my computer’s IP, and has been in all past wireless networks I’ve ever used)

I know DHCP is a ‘requesting IPs’ thing so is somewhat important. Should I plug in my wireless adaptor to use that instead, I get a 162.something or the like, which apparently Windows makes itself if it isn’t provided with an IP (So, otherwise, it hasn’t actually got one.)

In other news, after 2 weeks of sleeping on an airbed, our flatpack cheap Argos furnature arrived, the slats of which have already broken (mumble), Paul is never allowed to un-flatpack again until I get him one of those stress reliever toy things (and I am never allowed to fight Lost Number on FF7 again without the like, I’m sure :P) and my second year of uni starts next week.

Oh, and 3-seat-sofa’s aren’t fun to carry up multiple flights of stairs, to then find it won’t fit in the door (at least, until one unhindged door and much swearing later)

Also, I’ve given out 8 CVs and 4 application forms and heard diddly squat. *whinge* I want more moneys so we can get a nice, shiny, 42 inch HD LCD TV(or, “lucaduhtuv)/Plasma TV to add to our studenty flat.

Ah, but we already have a dooved player! And if that breaks, my pis2 (ahahaha) also plays dooveds!

And there’s also my pisex to play cids on, since we don’t have a cid player.

Now, if only this duhcup and pupupoey would work properly, we’d be all set!

… … I’ve just fried my brain trying to work out how to say those abbrieviations like works and how to spell them X.x

They had the lucadutuv one on just now :P

I think I remember flipping through and catching one where he asks someone for their bank account details and she gives them to him *smackface*

Although Paul says he’s seen one which went
“I’m calling from your bank to verify (blah de blah)”
    “Which bank?”
    “Er … your bank.”
    “But which bank.”
    “…a major bank.”

    Mahaha.
