Mog and Chips

We have 10 seconds of CGI. We have 2500 words of essay. And then, we have this;

A minute animation to be entered into an film festival.

Eep. Lots of eep. More eep is that we have to have a presentation crit in 4 (now 3) weeks.

Now people have got jobs from being noticed in film festivals, which implies that one should do what they would eventually like to do.

But CGI isn’t popular. It’s ’shouldering’ out 2D because it’s cheaper, so studios are using it for the sake of it instead of it being appropriate. And big headed muppets (You still fell in the uncanny valley, Mr Polar Express! ) saying “CGI is the future” instead of “CGI is developing alongside 2D as a seperate style.” I want to do realistic CGI, but saying that is like saying “Only a photorealistic drawing is good, stylised stuff is crap.” Which obviously, it isn’t.

So 2D is less risky and better recieved. And I don’t want to be someone that does CGI for the sake of it. But then if someone says “I like that, we want you for you 2D-ness” I’ll never get to where I want to be.

Also, I had another job interview today. I think I did ok, but they have 101 interviewees, so maybe not =P I’ve yet to hear from the company I was at last week, but they said it’d be 2 weeks anyway.
