So, weeklong on trying to do 10 seconds of CGI (I hate rigging. Hate hate hate hate hate. Even more than I hate keyframing, which I also hate, now that I’ve figured out how to do it, and probably wrongly at that because I did it all on my onesie (We’re only up to texturing in our actual CGI lessons, and we had a deadline for a crit (presentation storyboard + 10 seconds) today.

Aaanyway, they didn’t actually say anything about my animation, which I was really pissed off about, and just focused on how bad my storyboard was; somehow between the tutor telling me “it doesn’t have to have every single shot, it just needs to look like how you want the final thing to look like. The film has to be the OMGBEST you can do” and our crit today, it changed to “the 10 seconds just needs to be a linetest, and your storyboard needs to be readable.”

Bah.

But I passed, and it’s only 30% of about 8% of my final grade. But it still pisses me off that I spend about 6 days doing 20 hours of work to meet the evil deadline.

Anyway. Paulus has a new computer and it’s better than mine. The graphics card is worse (unless a £10 ATI is generally better than a £40 Geforce 6600, from the same store, in which case I want one :P) but he has a quad processor and 2 gigs of RAM and everything runs SO much faster. And he has a 19 inch widescreen. My mobo is shit since a roach destroyed the last one and I got the only one I could find in a store, it’s an AGP so I can’t just get a shiny new PCI-E card (and I want Dual Channel RAM), and my 3 gig HT CPU is already way out of date and isn’t a 775 anyway. So if I want to upgrade one, I have to upgrade them all. And I want more RAM. 2 gigs of RAM would be cool.

Seriously, this motherboard is so shite, it sometimes has to restart itself before it’s even reached post. ASROCK help FAQS? “Yeah, that happens”, pretty much. And it cost me £50 because I didn’t have internet.

In other news, I’m starting to get more hours at work (thanks for the congrats by the way, X and Humane) and I haven’t heard from the other guys, who were meant to let me know in 2 weeks but I’m suspecting aren’t dropping me so they can have me temping at Christmas. And I don’t get 50% discount there. Maha.) I’d like to have 10-ish hours, but 4 hour shifts at a time is all my feet can take right now. Maybe when I get used to the job, and can afford some comfy shoes.

I seemed to have the same problem with my art teachers. They’d always say ‘It’s a bit too much, a bit too cluttered.. don’t put so much in’. And I, like you, would spend hours of massive labour on the blueprint then even more hours on the final product. I feel your pain. I just found it best in the end to crap up the blueprint because they don’t really care as long as it gets the idea across and it saved me the emotional toll. :)

Yay for more work hours! Oh oh, what kind of comfy shoes do you plan on getting? I need to get an idea of what I should get for this winter. I hate women’s fashion here because it’s impractical (knee high heeled boots.. though I do think they are sexy).

It’s weird whe it comes to storyboarding. So many people have differnt views on how to go about it. Our tutor has a differnt look on the subject. We have to include every shot in drawing the storyboard, and we HAVE to use every shot from the storyboard once filming. Imo the storyboards just a rough draft, so many of my idea’s if drawn on storyboards just dont work in reality >
