ASUS… you suck
Anyway, I’ve been looking for a heatsink with a backplate because on my ASUS motherboard, the CPU socket is seated ever so slightly too high so the regular socket 775 pushpin heatsink goes ‘pop’ at the slightest shudder.
I had an Akasa, which fastened fine, but after 5 months just died, leaving me heatsink-fan less.
So I look for a non-Akasa, backplate fan and come across the Zalman fans which also attach via screws to a backplate.
Ahaha, not quite. I’ve got it out of the box and try assembling it – the support mounts to a backplate, and then you attach the heatsinkfan to the support with a metal strap over the CPU.
The CPU socket is too high.
The screws won’t reach the HSF support.
That fan cost me £40 and I can’t return it because I’ve opened it now. Not realising anything was wrong with the ASUS motherboard, I had it for one and a half years already, hence it’s no longer under warranty.
If I’m not around for a bit, it’s because I’ve travelled to China to eat whoever’s in charge.
