Technical and creative dispatch assistant.
Thes are, apparently, some very creative terms for… box stuffing.
Well, not quite, but that’s what you start doing before you’re let near any computers to make sure you can actually make sense of numbers before you can seriously ruin anything.
That said, the people there seemed nice, the customers seemed fair, it’s all of half hour away all public transport and walking speed considered, and it’s three days a week which leaves me time to work on my portfolio. It’s also temporary – which is good, actually, because it’s going to take more than the summer holiday to have more films in my portfolio so I’d be able and willing to work the course.
The problem with being a graduate, of course, is that you’re “overqualified” – your interviewer scrutinises the qualifications part of your CV, thinking “is this person going to stick around, really? Or are they looking for stop-gap employment and leave us hanging when their opportunity comes along?”
What are you doing with your degree? They ask. Well, I need to improve my portfolio – you can’t walk into the industry with a first, nevermind a 2:2, and for animation that’s several small films, which takes a very long time. Or perhaps I could go freelance while I work full/part time.
But of course, how can they know that I’m telling the truth? Any graduate would say anything for a stop gap job in this time.
Blah.
So yes, it’s temping all the way I think. I’ve also found the people at the Jobcentre to be rather unhelpful (despite first walking over to the jobseeking consoles, having a look and printing some jobs off in attempt to prove that I’m not the child spewing, money grubbing scum of the earth that appear to be populating the place and missing their review appointments so they don’t have to reveal that they haven’t actually been looking for a job. …That’s an unfair accusation, I’m sorry. I’m sure maybe half of the ten people that came up with that one while I was there for half hour had a genuine reason. I can’t entire fathom how one doesn’t have time for one if they’re still unemployed, with the obvious exception of carers and people with families.)
Job search goes on!

Yeah, that is actually a pretty fair accusation. My whole area is 80% filled with these type of people who accuse foreign workers of stealing their jobs even though the people themselves have probably never worked since leaving school at 16 (possibly earlier, especially if you’re a girl and get yourself pregnant while still attending school 1 out of the 5 days in the week)
Le sigh.
It’s pretty hard for those of us actually looking for jobs at the moment because there doesn’t seem to be much out there but when there is you usually find about 90 people all applying for the same job. That job you’ve seen sounds hot, especially if it’s going to leave you with some days to get on with your portfolio as well. Plus it has a long and important sounding title so you can look smart when people ask you what you do :3 Good luck honey!
