Duuuh, RSS?

Ok, I have a Wordpress question…

If I wanted to create an RSS feed on my widgets, how would I do it? I’ve been trying to do it on Garr’s site so I can have the latest blog entries shown on the ‘front page’ blog using the feeds. I noticed that on the blogs, they all have an RSS Entries link but when I try different variations of the link on an RSS widget nothing will appear. Yet, I notice over here they do. Is it something you have to have set up on the website to have it working?

Yup. WordPress widgets support it by default, but I assume he doesn’t use that. I use something called Simple Pie on other sections of the site to show some feeds, like the news on the anime and games pages.

Eh, I read that wrong I think. He does use Wordpress.
In which case; yes, it should work and no, you don’t have to set up anything on the website.

Yep he uses Wordpress (but we decided not to try MU so we’ve had to create separate mysql databases for each blog). I’ve tried all sorts of links to try and get them working but once I’ve saved it and gone back to the blog, there is just a blank space where they *should be*. Now I tried it on the same layout that Commsie has but even though something appeared this time is was always “this feed is down, please try again”…

It’s because you’re using some kind of hack to offer the blogs, when you hover over the names on the left you see that it points to the main blog instead of to the subs.
So there’s some kind of bug in the dynamic linkage somewhere. Tried it on your haven blog there? It’d be interesting to see if that works.

See, the only hack I can think of is a plugin I spotted that let you put more information on your feeds which I thought might help out. But it didn’t. So that’s deactivated now, actually. If you meant to try making an RSS widget on the haven blog, I tried that and it does the same thing.

The only thing that I can *think* might affect it, could it be that they’re all just in the www folder and not in their own separate blog folder? Of course, I’m just looking at the links on here that do actually work if you stick them in an RSS widget.

    *pulls hair out* :(

With hack I mean whatever you’re using so people can register their own blog. I assume you’re using something for that and not manually installing wordpress for every member.

O….k. Good luck updating all blogs each time.
Eh, one thing I did notice; hover over the rss icon of any blog and you see a link without http://www. Click on it and you get a page with http://www. Do you have some sort of htaccess redirection going on that could be messing up things?

Not that I’m aware of. Those links would only appear if I missed out the www completely otherwise it would say they were not recognised.

Hmm, then check if in a member blog under options you have the wordpress address and blog address correct. If it has the www try removing it. (I’m having to guess here, in case it wasn’t obvious ;)

Urgh. I’d have to check myself if it’s really driving you nuts.

If you wouldn’t mind, that would actually be really helpful as I’m not getting anywhere with it ^^; I’ll send you a PM later with the details if you don’t mind?

Ignore that :3 Got it working. Had to add /?feed=2 at the end of each link.
