Not impressed

This might sound random… but this is something disturbing I found out today.

Since we moved into this new house, we keep getting these (a lot) of phone calls from men asking about some kind of advertisement to which I’m assuming is a local business that has a similar number to ours. Today I got one of these calls from an old sounding guy asking me for directions and when I told him the usual “you have the wrong number” he read back to me my correct number!

Out of interest, I put my telephone number into google… and to my suprise found my telephone number listed on a Sheffield directory for female escorts! Apparently the person who owns my number is a woman called Miss Strickland and she specialises in “corrective punishment”.

Amusing to begin with I have to admit. Would still be amusing if we didn’t keep getting these random calls all the time, now knowing what they’re phoning for. Tried getting in contact with the site’s admin and the mail bounced back. Not been able to get in touch with my service provider either but I’m not sure how they’ll manage to solve the problem without changing my number.

Grrrrr arg.

    Sue! SUE! Sexual harrassment! AUGH!

    ;)

Amusing but frustrating I imagine. I hate it when someone calls me and it’s not for me in the first place. It’s awkward and annoying. Imagine it being a brothel. Well you don’t have to imagine of course.

Lol, time to get out ye olde whip eh? But I can imagine that after the first few laughs it can get annoying pretty damn quickly. So why not just get another number?

Ooh OH! Even better! Offer your ’services’ over the phone but demand payment through a paypal account first. Once that’s done, shout ‘HENTAI!!! PERVERT!!! SEXUAL HARRASSMENT!’ Then hang up the phone. I hear most men like screamers anyway.

    Hehehe.. heh..

    bad joke. -_-

I wouldn’t say that’s disturbing… it’s actually a common issue. [Not necessarily with escort businesses, but... yeah.]

The first year I lived in the house I live in now, we used to get a lot of calls of people seeking a physical therapist whose office used to have the same number.
Most people were apologetic when they realized that they reached the wrong number, but I had a few get nasty with me as if it was my fault the doctor disappeared or got a new number.
    One such scenario:
    “Hello?”
“Hi, I’d like to make an appointment with Doctor–”
“Oh, I’m sorry, but this isn’t his number anymore. I’ve gotten other calls from other patients, but apparently he has a new phone.”
    “What?!”
“…this is a residential number, now.”
“Well what’s the new number, goddamn it?”
“I’m afraid I don’t know. I didn’t even know a doctor had this number until people like you called.”
“People like me? What the fuck’s that supposed to mean? And you should have his fucking number to redirect people.”
[y'know, as if it's my job to keep tabs on other peoples' doctors, or as if i'm a secretary. hah.]

^ People with short fuses are so annoying. Even ones that get upset over little things like not being able to find something. They start cursing and become accusing. >.> It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. There is no reason to get so upset about small things! Argh.
