Defies Expectations
Posted by Saint under Thoughts
So one of the most wonderful things I’ve discovered since arriving at Carnegie Mellon is meatloaf.
Now, for those of you who know me (oh wait, whatever was I thinking *whap*), you know that I don’t get out much. I guess you don’t have to know me to know that, but I’ll mention it again now: I don’t get out much. Hence, I don’t experience a lot of stuff, and meatloaf is one of them. Fruitcake is another, though maybe I’ve had it and just not realized it was fruitcake, I wouldn’t know, because again, I don’t get out much and thus don’t know about fruitcake except through Garfield comics, and it’s not like those are practical for IDing real world fruitcakes. I mean actual fruitcakes here, not slang for people who are fruitcakes (I don’t actually know what the slang means either…just a vague sense that it’s bad). But I’m absolutely sure in my 17 years I have NEVER had meatloaf before arriving at Carnegie Mellon.
MEATLOAF BLEW MY MIND!!
It’s like meaty, all meaty and stuffs, but on the other hand, it has a distinctly loafish texture and look to it. It’s like a raisin bread made of meat and lacking all raisin-ish qualities. It’s madness. It reminds me of the movie Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, oh la la) where Lucien the grocer helper brings the groceries up to Raymond Dufayel (the glass man right?) and he’s all look, artichoke…or is it?! toxic cleaner or delicious red wine? canned stuff or something under the can which I can’t recall? Meatloaf is like that, except you don’t have to whip anything off. Now first off, after a few months here, I’m realizing that the meatloaf here isn’t that great, in fact it can be downright terrible. But for that first one or two weeks here, it was like heavenly deliciousness. People often ask what’s the greatest thing since sliced bread…there’s the answer yins! Sliced meat-bread! Meatloaf!
I’d ask you all, on this day, since I cannot find any other reference to it in the first 5 google entries for it, to celebrate Meatloaf Appreciation Day, or MAD. Mad for meatloaf.
Mark your calenders, Oct 18, Meatloaf Appreciation Day.
EDIT: ok, google show me fruitcakes: they ugly and look un-yummy (aka disgustable). so therefore, I have never eaten fruitcake, and to be frank, those images coupled with my memories (fond fond memories) of Garfield comics, leads me to believe I will never willingly partake in fruitcake unless required of me by social convention (aka peer pressure…fucking peer pressure)
