Catchy songs

Flashdance
Remember 1983? I was reminded of Michael Sembello’s Maniac today, which I think is still as catchy as it was back then.

Iron & Wine

Iron & Wine - Our endless numbered days.
Remember real music? Acoustic music? Music before every monkey started thinking that screaming into a mic and scraping a hand across a guitar makes him a musician? Before sound engineers started thinking that producing an album meant turning up the bass instead of capturing the whole sound spectrum as faithfully as possible?
Well, that kind of music is still being made, and a most excellent example of it is Iron & Wine’s Our Endless Numbered Days. Simply beautiful. Check it out here and here.

Faderhead – FH2

Faderhead - FH2
Faderhead’s second album. Pretty diverse, less aggressive than the first (which may or may not be considered a pity) and with interesting lyrics. I wouldn’t know how to classify this music, and I think that’s a good thing, just click on the picture to have a listen for yourself as the whole album is available in a low sample rate stream.

Random fact of the day

In Meatloaf’s “I would do anything for love” he sings/says “I would do anything for love” 33 times.
My 2 colleagues counted.

Diorama – A different life

Diorama - A different life
New album, brilliant as always. “Kein Mord” is my fave track after the first few listens, but “Exit the grey” is also catchy.

Last.fm

Last.fm
Ok, I absolutely adore Last.fm, it appeals to the statistics whore in me. It’s also a great way to discover new music. For those unfamiliar with it, you download a program which tracks what music you listen to. This is then turned into statistics you can view on their website (all RSS powered, so you easily add it to for example your blog). Recently played, weekly charts, fave bands, you name it.
It also lets you see music you may like as well, based on what it knows you love. And you can see a list of other people with a similar music taste.
Anyway, the list goes on and on, check it out if you’re a music nut.

And, now we also have a last.fm group for X111.com members:
http://www.last.fm/group/X111.com
Join it! If we get a group of people on there it will generate a weekly chart based on what we’ve all been listening to, which in turn could be fun to add to the site.

Within Temptation

Within Temptation - The heart of everything
Very nice. Yet again a little more mainstream, but they’ve got more punch now. Me likes.

Seabound – Double-crosser

Seabound - Double-crosser
Finally, a new Seabound cd. Beautiful.
Some day I’ll finally get round to making a top 10 of my fave bands/musicians. A daunting task, but I’m reasonably sure it’ll include Seabound.

Musicwise this is probably the best week of the year

2 albums are released which I know will be among my 3 faves of the year without even having heard them yet.
First up is VNV Nation‘s new album “Matter and form” which I hope will rival “Empires”, which is definately one of my favourite albums ever.
And secondly at last the new Diorama cd, titled “Amaroid”. At last because their last album dates back to 2002 and I love both that one and the older “Her liquid arms”.

It’s rather cool, to me at least, that both are being released at roughly the same time because I stumbled across Empires and Her liquid arms at the end of 2002 and both grew on me so much, because of their lyrics, music and the mood coupled with my state of being at the time. So I’m looking forward to see if the 2 new ones will live up to my expectations.

Yay for EBM/synthpop/Darkwave or whatever it’s called these days.

Work in progress... not home!
Trying to get all/most of the new code working before I start on the eyecandy.
