Wreck-It Ralph trailer

Coming in November, Wreck-It Ralph tells the story of said Ralph, a video game bad guy tired of being a bad guy. He ditches his game and goes off on an adventure to be the good guy. Judging from the trailer it looks fun, loads of video game references. Love Zangief being in there. :D
And who knows, this might be the first time I can actually stomach Sarah Silverman. Maybe.

You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I’m yours. No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you’re on your own. Do you understand?

What a surprising movie. Not knowing anything about it other than having seen the trailer I was expecting the typical hollywood treatment, overkill effects, non-stop action and over the top dialogue.
Instead I saw a, for lack of better words, minimalistic and restrained movie focused on telling a story and conveying emotions and a mood. Right from the start it grabs you and doesn’t let go until the end titles start rolling.
Dialogue is kept to a minimum, no bold crap, no action sequences that don’t serve a purpose (although there’s plenty of action), it all just worked and shows that great movies can still be made.
If you haven’t seen it yet; go watch it.

Avengers GUI & HUD

Awesome post by the design lead for the Avengers movie’s GUI’s and HUD’s used.
Gotta love the attention to detail in all those stills.

DayZ is the first game in a very long time that makes me wish I had a new Mac/PC to run it on.
It’s a concept mod for a game, but a concept that is proving so damn popular that it’s now getting more and more support. Not bad for an alfa mod.
These 2 articles were where I first heard of the game, and they really set the tone:
DayZ – Part One
DayZ – Part Two

In a nutshell, you land on a beach with some minimal kit, and you must survive. Survive fellow players roaming the land trying to kill you, survive zombies, and survive period. And when you die you lose everything and have to restart from scratch back on the beach. Now that adds pressure.

Tron: Legacy, the iOS game

“Thank you for playing. The servers supporting Light Cycle Multiplayer are no longer in service. This update removes the multiplayer option and optimizes the single player experience. We apologize for the inconvenience. The fight for the ultimate GRID Game champion continues. Good luck program.”

Oh the irony, thank you Disney for ditching all support for this game and turning it from multi player online into single player offline. And that for a game about a virtual world on a server that’s cut off from the web (until the very end of the film anyway).

Some nice synchronicity going on there.

Back to Stormwind

At the end of the day, Ogrimmar just isn't my thing. Stormwind ftw!

Warlock & Paladin

The BBC tv show called Sherlock is a weird thing. It manages to be awesome and totally horrendous at the same time, depending on your point of view.

Let’s put it this way, as a contemporary tv show centered around a London based detective who solves crimes with his sidekick it’s awesome. The plots are splendid roller coasters, the narrative and dialogues sharp and witty, and the camera work and artistic direction is inspirational.

On the other hand, I can’t help but hate that they had to name it Sherlock and base it on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. If you love those books, there will be a lot of wtf moments that will make you almost stop watching.
Two examples of this; the book Sherlock is asexual, he’s so wrapped up in developing his mind that he’s beyond sex (or in fact morality and good & bad). This being a BBC show however they decided in their infinite wisdom to make Sherlock gay. Awesome. In any other case it’d just be lame (hello Torchwood), in this case it simply does not fit the Sherlock character in any way or form.
Other example; this one’s so sad it’s laughable. In the original book series Sherlock sometimes resorts to using cocaine to keep his thinking mojo going. Fast forward to the 21st century and BBC censorship and they decided this was probably not a good idea to advertise to their already drunk and stupid average viewer, so they replaced it. They should have just ripped it out altogether considering how badly they assassinated the Sherlock character, but no they replaced it. With nicotine patches. I kid you not. That’s like doing a remake of a classic western and when the silent and serious looking main character goes for a drink they replace the bottle of whiskey with a baby bottle with orange juice. Epic face palm moment.

If you haven’t seen it yet go grab it somewhere as it is definitely worth checking out. It’s one of, if not THE, best detective series out there at the moment even though they only do 3 episodes (albeit it 90 minute ones) a year.
Just don’t expect it to have to much to do with Sherlock Holmes.

Depeche Mode – Behind the Wheel

A good day for a good song.
