I like to move it move it

We’re gonna be moving soon. So soon in fact that we’ll have a bit of a problem with our internet connection, so the site will probably be down for the first days in July.

Threaded comments

Something I’ve been meaning to add for quite some time, threaded comments. It makes it a lot easier to reply to certain comments and maintain the context. Give it a try and say hi. :)

Imploding site

[dropcap2]I[/dropcap2]t’s been a while, roughly 2 years if I’m not mistaken, but it’s finally time for a new theme. And I actually bought one. So far so good, I’m moving over content that was previously on other parts of the site (like the gallery) to here and discovering this theme offers a lot, but also a lot less than my previous layout. Not surprising of course as I’d been customizing the crap out of that one. I’ll do the same with this one but for now I’m just happy that it works. Mostly.

The general idea is now to concentrate everything into one WordPress installation, using it as my main CMS, instead of the previous construction with separate blogs, gallery and forum scripts. And do it in such a way that we can move forward for the next several years.

Comments are welcome of course, but keep in mind it’s still work in progress for quite some time to come.

Reboot in progress

After thinking long and hard about what to do with this site I think I’m going back to day 0; everything including the kitchen sink. I was thinking about switching to a single topic but let’s face it, that’s just not my style. I ‘might’ disable comments for future posts as they rarely have anything meaningful to add, but maybe switching things around might pull a different crowd. Or not, let’s wait and see.
But yeah, for my random postings, stripping out the community aspect as that’s all dead and buried. as my personal newsreader and for the portfolio of my wife and I.
Time to get back in the game and get a little more active, 3 years of negligence have taken its toll on the traffic. ;)

Now I just need a new look for the site.
And import my old wallpapers here somehow.
And whip up a few new scripts.
And modify the theme to alter the look depending on the type of content.

We’ll see how it goes. As Bruce said, be like water!

Me and the internet 2009

This topic made me think about social networks, how I use the internet and how things have changed over the years.
I used to seriously dislike the whole social networking fad because I think it pretty much killed ye olde fashioned forums. Now however I’m more getting the hang of it and actually prefer it because it fits better into my current schedule and workflow.

An acquired taste

Posting on a phone definitely takes some getting used to. Ah well, another good excuse to keep my posts short and sweet. So yeah, yay for iPhone and the official WordPress app (to which I can’t link as I do not know how to insert links in this damn thing, this app seriously lacks options).

Eight and counting

I haven’t been big on posting recently but for my only post this month I just wanted to say; woohoo, as of the 10th this site’s been online for 8 years.

Tired of news sites

Too much to do, too little time, too much to keep track of. Sound familiar? Yeah, same here. So in the spirit of Getting Things Done I’ve had enough of having to click through lots of sites of interest, news sites where 75% of the news is of no interest to me and I want to do something about it. I want to make a new site this weekend where I have a frontpage that gives me a quick and easy to read overview of all the news that I like. News meaning new stuff online that is of interest to me. So that means WordPress news, photography tips and tricks, Photoshop tutorials, web design related info, a bit of gaming, a spot of weirdness around the world and sprinkled with a drop of randomness for good measure.
So here we go.

And while we’re on the subject, feel free to post a comment with any sites you keep track of. If I like them, I’ll add them, assuming they have an RSS feed.

Blog redesign

I’d forgotten how much fun it could be to fiddle with a blog design. Thank you Yichi! It’s a joy to read the code. Real code, instead of messing with widgets that never look quite the way you want. And custom javascript that even I can read and work with, mmm. It’s going to be a work in progress for quite a while as I work my way through the code, add lots of bits and change and replace graphics, but I am SO loving this theme.

Work in progress... not home!
Trying to get all/most of the new code working before I start on the eyecandy.
