Here’s a nice article about the server version of Apple’s Os X Leopard, which for some reason is horribly ignored in the media. Maybe it’s a fine example of what’s wrong with Apple, the fanboys are too busy jerking off over the latest iPhone widget or photos of what might be the latest iPod, instead of checking out what, in my opinion, is the most interesting thing Apple has to offer; a user friendly, virtually idiot proof UNIX server operating system that’s up and running in a few mouseclicks and is a dream (supposedly) to manage. And when I read this it sure does sound yummy. The best open source packages, integrated by Apple and managed with a luvly admin GUI instead of having to spend days in man pages editing conf files and getting scripts to talk to eachother. Anyone who ever tried manually assembling a proper ‘nix mail server knows what a pain in the ass that is. Not to mention what a time sink. So yay for Apple. More articles/reviews like this please!

It’s new (just announced at MacWorld 2008), it’s thin, it doesn’t have a cd/dvd drive, it’s slower, it costs a lot more!
It’s air alright, Steve Jobs’ hot air coming out of his ass. They call it ultra portable. I thought that meant small, not thin, it’s still 13.3″.
That’s it for me, I’ll wait for the new Asus Eee and go ‘nix instead. Why the hell anyone would prefer this Air over a MacBook is beyond me. Not at nearly twice the price anyway. Or 6 times the price of an Eee.
Flat-out stunning? Nah, flat-out disappointing.

64-bit Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Harpertown” 5400 series processor for the win, in the new models of the Xserve and Mac Pro, so 2 processors makes for 8 cores in total. Niiice.

But, what’s rather weird is that these are announced a week before the Macworld San Francisco 2008, which makes everyone wonder what they’re going to announce there if this wasn’t big enough.

Mac OS X Leopard arrives October 26

That can now be read on the official site along with a nice countdown timer. Mmmm.
I’m also very interested what this will bring.

Rumours have it that new MacBooks are in the works.
Two things that catch my interest;
- Aluminium case. This I like because the MacBook’s plastic sucks, scratches, turns an icky colour and doesn’t protect the inner components enough.
- ‘Extremely aggresively’ priced. Now we’re talking Apple here, so that could sit cost you a few ribs, but one can hope.
Maybe these’ll come along with the launch of Leopard? Which is rumoured to have reached Release Candidate stage by the way, and the 800Mhz G4 has been dropped as the minimum spec.

Apple’s new OS, Leopard, is now officially delayed until October. Apparently because the iPhone is such an advanced high tech piece of equipment that they had to put Leopard devs on the project to get it shipping in June.
Suuuuure, it’s still just a bloody phone.

I’d care more if I still had any spare time for computers. As is; meh. I’m looking forward to playing with XenSource’s XenEnterprise at work, might even move my Proliant back to work, no time to play with it at home at the moment anyway, and it makes a perfect test server.
