A new website for AmigaOS4.0 has been launched, this time by Hyperion.
I lost track of all the drama in the past year but this is really shaping up like a second Duke Nukem Forever.
E.T.A: no bloody clue.
Such a shame, part of me still wants to believe, even after all these years.
“Free 1GB online to store and edit your emails, office documents, calender, organizer, photos and files, chat to friends play games surf the web even faster and more from any computer on your own personal online desktop and access it from anywhere in the world hosted by http://www.cosmopod.com.”
Apparently they’re getting a bit hammered at the moment due to waves of people signing up and giving it a whirl but I’ll definitely try this out this week.
I’m not so much interested in the service they offer because I don’t like all these webservices that much. If it does run well however I’m interested in the tech behind it to set something like this up for myself. They’re using NX, which I’ve heard a lot about but haven’t had time to play with myself. It could be very cool to be able to have your own desktop, programs and files anywhere you go, I’m not sure how the way they’ve implemented it differs from similar solutions that are already available (and free).
Time for a testdrive…
“Imagine the scenario: a billionaire walks into a mobile phone shop. The sales assistant says, ‘Can I help you?’ but gets the reply ‘Just looking, thank you.’ The man tries a few phones, lifting his glasses to look at the detail of the display. He presses a couple of buttons. He shakes his head…”
For some reason I always love reading stuff about his Steve-ness.
Reality distortion field or not, the guy is interesting. Whether you agree with the way Apple runs the show or not you have to admire Jobs for doing everything his way from start to finish.
Har har, I’ve got a Gmail account. Been itching to try it out because I was rather curious to see how Google minimalism would be translated to a webmail interface, and I must say, they’ve done it again. Very slick, very lightweight and fast and with some very well executed ideas.
I love how they show your messages in threads, and the interface is impressive to say the least.
And on another note, equally minimalistic, Apple announced the new iMac today, and boy is it yummy.
Ofcourse I’d still prefer a PowerMac (hehe, aside from the fact I’m broke as a bum) but from a design point of view I think this is perfect. And ofcourse this is the only way I’d be able to squeeze an additional comp on my desk.
