Me and the internet 2009

This topic made me think about social networks, how I use the internet and how things have changed over the years.
I used to seriously dislike the whole social networking fad because I think it pretty much killed ye olde fashioned forums. Now however I’m more getting the hang of it and actually prefer it because it fits better into my current schedule and workflow.

Bye bye last.fm?

Read this if you’re using last.fm. This could be the final nail in their coffin (next to charging for the radio).

5 Minutes of fame

5_minutes_of_fame

Zomg, I was like, totally famous for 5 minutes. Myeah, maybe not. I was however on the front page of 5minutesfame.com for 5 minutes, showing off my last tweets and my twitter profile, just because I was the first to enter my name in that 5 minute timespan.
All of that gained me a massive 1 new follower on Twitter. Time to sink back into obscurity.

Google Chrome, beta no more

Wow, they move fast. 3 months ago the first beta was released. Now, 10 versions later they’ve hit gold and 1.0 has been released. And if the first beta was fast, this one is a lot faster, and of course a lot more stable as well.

LIFE photo archive

Thanks to Google 10 million photos of the LIFE photo archive are now viewable online. It’s easily searchable and the pics date back to the 1750s.
Too bad about the watermark on the full size versions.

World Wide Winter

It looks and feels like autumn/winter outside, and while on the one hand that tends to make the autumn blues kick in and make people feel a tad down because of the lack of sunshine, on the other hand it’s always fun because the whole WWW seems to become more active again. WordPress 2.7 is just around the corner, and it looks like it’s going to be a great one.
New WordPress sites to give you coding tips and tricks seem to be the latest rage, and new plugins are coming so fast and many you’d think everyone’s been stockpiling their code over the summer.
‘t is the season to be jolly!

MTV Music

Better late than never, they must have thought over at MTV, as they finally strike back at YouTube and open up a new website dedicated to music videos and related footage. I like, the videos are obviously of higher quality as most of the stuff that’s on the Tube which in the case of most 80’s and 90’s music is most often ripped from ye olde VHS tapes.
I also like because it’s possible to embed the videos on your site. They already have a huge amount of music and they’re adding more each and every day. MTV vs. YouTube…. round 1…. ding!

Lazy, lazier, Gmail

Nifty if you use gmail a lot and get a lot of mail that is along the same lines, gmail now offers canned responses. Or standard replies. You can make as many as you want, and for the truly lazy you can even combine it with filters for totally automated responders. Seeing as I don’t get that much standard mail on my gmail account I can’t think of any personal use for it, but I’m sure there are a lot of you out there who can.

My news site; X111.org

Here we go, tracking 73 sites, and more to be added as I go, my own news site:
http://X111.org
I’m still on the lookout for some more proper sites for some of the categories, especially Computer, Music & Pro Blogging. And I still have to add a Gaming category if someone can come up with some decent non-hawker links.

Work in progress... not home!
Trying to get all/most of the new code working before I start on the eyecandy.
