American Dad vs. Family Guy

It mystifies me how one guy (Seth MacFarlane) can create 2 comedy cartoons that so vary in quality. American Dad I love to pieces, it’s got story, it’s got teh funny, it’s got buckets of sarcasm, in short it’s brilliant. Then there’s Family Guy, which if I had to summarize it, would be; randomly generated crap. There’s no story, most of the jokes aren’t funny, it’s not coherent, it’s crap!

Oct 04 2007, 2:14I agree completely. People always wonder why I don’t like Family Guy. It’s the same repetitive shit over and over. There is no story and the jokes are over used.

Oct 04 2007, 2:26i don’t like American Dad exactly because of its stories. i just don’t give a damn what happens to them and don’t find it funny. of course i don’t like family guy that much, but it’s a lot funnier than American Dad :\

Usually there are co-creators involved, I’m not sure if the co-creators for American Dad and Family Guy are the same.
If not, that might be one of the reasons American Dad is so different.

Oct 04 2007, 9:09I gotta say i like family guy more…the pure randomness of it all kinda the thing i like about it. I feel American Dad is too normal in the story telling, and i just like odd ^_^
Although i like American Dad, i like family guy more.

I don’t really watch these shows, or tv for that matter.. Im eather watching anime, or asian drama tv shows… x_x If i do watch tv, im watching TLC, Discovery Health, Travel Channel, VH1, and that strange “DW-TV” thats showing on the local collage tv channel (don’t think its suppose to be there but i love watching it) .. o.o Whenever i turn it on its either in German or English. It has like “The journal” and “EuroMax” and such things and German commercials xD… Don’t know why that collage has a channel of their own when all they do is show their basketball games, graduation and announcements on it..

Oct 04 2007, 11:44I really do like American Dad better. Family Guy has it’s moments but I usually have to search for the good bits like a dog digging around in the trash looking for something edible.

Oct 04 2007, 18:31Personally, I dislike both series. I have never seen the appeal behind either of them. I always wonder why really great shows get cancelled, but shows like these continue to be in such high demand. I thought that the South Park spoof on Family Guy was actually pretty accurate.
I’m more of a Futurama guy anyway.

Although there may not be a unifying story like American Dad, the jokes are very tuned and inside for that generation which hit the internet prime around the 90’s.
I know a few people that hate Family Guy but don’t get 90% of the jokes since they’re usually just 1 or 2 lines in passing.
