Back from Crete

Quite a while since the last update so here we go;
In the beginning, there was darkness…. mehe, no.
Well, let’s see.
The whole CWI thingie has been taken care of, although I have a few envelopes from them that have arrived during my awayness… but seeing as I did report my vacation and got a confirmation on that, can’t be all bad.
Tomorrow it’s boldly onwards to active job seeking, got some good vibes on that… on a lot of things as a matter of fact.
The day before we went off to Crete I went to the Crogster’s wedding. They looked great in their Scottish wedding attire and the whole day was well organized and allround great fun and beautiful. Ofcourse we managed to break protocol a few times by being in the wrong place at the wrong time… with the worst example being called back because the bride asked where we were for the official wedding piccy. My head must have been redder than red walking back to a huge group of people all lined up nicely and just waiting for us.
Not so nice moment of the day was driving there when some jackass backed his car into mine at a traffic stop and then drove off, stupid fucker. I’m still waiting for the police report, luckily we managed to get the plate number.
And then there was Crete…
Travelling there was horrible, next time I’m taking the car. Longest wait, ever.
The hotel, was okayish, we were just royally spoiled in Portugal so I guess that made us expect more, but Crete itself was great.
We did everything we didn’t plan and didn’t do a lot of things we did plan for (well me anyway, managed to get a sunburn on my shoulders and day on the first day so no lazying on the beach for meh for example).
Met some interesting people, Anna being the absolute highlight of them all.
Weirdest people we saw was on our first night of all out drinking (it’s very easy to get drunk beyond belief in a place where you get free shots everywhere and it’s not tourist season yet. After our first night there the subsequent days all the bartenders and peeps standing outside to lure you in seemed to remember us *grins*).
And may I take this moment to offically announce that yes, CommS _does_ dance.
We rented some scooters because Chersonissos itself was quite bigger than expected plus we wanted to do some touring, and touring we did. I have no idea how many kilometers we covered but it was hundreds. For those familiar with Crete, we covered just about everything from west of Heraklion to way east of Mahlia and as far south as the Dikti cave, which was quite a ride by itself. We decided to drive there, so we literally went through the clouds over the mountains to get there. It got so cold that I couldn’t stop myself from shaking. But what a ride ![]()
We still managed to do lots of walking, visited Knossos (impressive palace) and just about every town in the square area described above.
Seeing as we didn’t like the hotel food much we went out to eat most of the times. If you ever go there, visit Cheers. Great food, good prices.
Meh, maybe I’ll post some more about the trip later, just so much we’ve done and seen.
All in all a great week with a great friend.
We’ll add some piccies to the Gallery later, still catching up on all things internet.
Although I did check my mail every day there, but that was for another reason *grins*.
It was good to be away from everything for a bit, gave me a bit of time to reflect on life, the universe and everything and as a result my already increasinly more at ease person is even more so at ease. Time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I even have bubblegum.
It’s a bit weird to be back after you’ve stayed somewhere long enough to build up some new daily habits, and I miss some things already, but it’s good to be back at the same time.
So much to look forward to, time to get things going…
