Skotino cave
This was actually rather cool. On another of our ‘hey, let’s start driving and see where we end up’ days we eventually hit the end of the road at this cave, at the top of yet another mountain. Now the cool thing was that it wasn’t on any of the tourist maps, and shock/horror, there was noone monitoring the access or asking for an admission fee, which as anyone who’s ever been to Crete will know, is an almost impossible to imagine thing.
Also cool was that it was pretty obvious inside that here had been a few cave-ins with debris blocking the end and piles of rocks all over the place.
The big piccy is obviously of the cave inside, totally unlit so quite fun to climb towards the back but also therefor a total bitch to take pictures.
Inset 1: CommS in an action pose looking at the sign marking the cave.
Inset 2: moi in front of the entrance with lots of beautiful plants and flying crap everywhere. Luckily due to the pic being resized you can’t really see my facial expression of general ‘eep’-ness as I’d just seen a 3 inch evil looking hornet wizz by in front of my face.
Inset 3: CommS, either dancing or trying to turn around and walk over all the loose rocks, you decide.
Inset 4: piccy with flash of what the floor actually looked like, with in the center a rock being hollowed out by water dripping from the ceiling.
