Me goes to the US, part 1

I’ll have to draw this out into several entries seeing as it’s a bit much and I have several angles.
On the one hand this trip was purely so Katelynd and I could spend some time together, but on the other hand this was my first time in the US, and from a European point of view that was quite a riot. More piccies in the gallery btw.
The journey there was uneventful. Couldn’t sleep on the plane because of someone snoring loudly to the left and someone with the worst case of bad breath to the right of me so I watched some movies instead. Shrek 3 (rather boring incidentally) & Lethal Weapon 4 are the only 2 I can remember. I had to transfer in Detroit, which was interesting seeing as the plane was an hour late so I had 30 minutes to get through security, customs, and security part 2 and then had to run to the other side of the airport.

I managed to make it just in time by pissing off a lot of people cutting in line (mostly the customs people, the security people were actually very nice, so were the stewards and stewardesses who let me cut in line).
My luggage didn’t arrive until the next day because of the delayed flight, it wasn’t transferred in time. Next time I’m bringing at least some stuff in a carry on bag.
Picked up the car rental which turned out to be twice as expensive as advertised, gotta love it when companies do that, and we drove off. The first thing that really hit me was the heat. It was bloody boiling hot. Katelynd decided to drive which was a good idea seeing as the traffic takes some getting used to for a dutch guy who is used to red meaning stop and green meaning go, but I’ll get to that in part 2.

We spent most of our days enjoying our time together and taking it easy, going out for food or (baby) shopping. One can never take too much money and unfortunately my credit card didn’t like US atm’s or vice versa. Ah yeah, we bought this little book. Highly overrated. We bought it for shits ‘n giggles but were a bit disappointed to find it didn’t offer anything we hadn’t tried yet. Other than that and a spidey shirt most of the shopping was baby shtuff, there’s just too many cute pink girly baby outfits.

There’s not really that much to do in small town USA and to be honest I couldn’t care less. It was brilliant to be able to see Katelynd again. We went on a mission to let me try every mainstream junk food chain and I think we managed that quite well and I tried just about everything outside of old McD’s. Me <3 Taco Bell. I know it's crap, but damn it's yummy crap.

Going back was heartbreaking to be honest. It was wonderful to spend time with her and seeing and feeling the baby respond, and to then have to leave and go back… not fun. But that’s the way it is until the @#$% divorce gets finalized, so be it.
Couldn’t really sleep on the flight back, so I watched 4 movies. Next (enjoyable), I Robot (still like it), Wag the dog (amusing) & Spiderman 3.
The only things I really missed were my Faderhead cd and my MacMini which runs the site. I usually have more of a problem getting back into my old ‘slave to the grind’ rythm then I have adjusting to a new one.
I didn’t think I’d have a problem with jetlag coming back given my ‘normal’ totally irregular sleeping habits but last night I only slept an hour or 2. Maybe it was jetlag, maybe it’s just too much on my mind.

At least she smiles in the pictures. CommS just stands there staring into the camera. :P Humane is a better subject to photograph.
I’m glad to hear that you had a decent trip. I hope everything works out. I’m looking forward to the next entries.
Meh, goofy look on me face. I didn’t drink any, me swears! O.O
Is it me or does everything you heard about America coming true in your entry? I love stereotypes, heh.
Eh, yeah, wait for the second entry. ;)
