and to underline that announcement, the Portal ending song:
So yeah, another bad case of ‘life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans’. So all my plans around here are put on hold for a bit as we focus on more immediate concerns.
But the news website was coming along nicely until I hit some UTF-8 snags which I haven’t had time to fix yet. Surprisingly the whole thing is already getting more traffic than expected without an official launch, so yay for that.
Ah yeah, and I still have to put the winning banner up on the forum. Soon.
Too much to do, too little time, too much to keep track of. Sound familiar? Yeah, same here. So in the spirit of Getting Things Done I’ve had enough of having to click through lots of sites of interest, news sites where 75% of the news is of no interest to me and I want to do something about it. I want to make a new site this weekend where I have a frontpage that gives me a quick and easy to read overview of all the news that I like. News meaning new stuff online that is of interest to me. So that means WordPress news, photography tips and tricks, Photoshop tutorials, web design related info, a bit of gaming, a spot of weirdness around the world and sprinkled with a drop of randomness for good measure.
So here we go.
And while we’re on the subject, feel free to post a comment with any sites you keep track of. If I like them, I’ll add them, assuming they have an RSS feed.
Well, maybe not a day, more like just over 2 hours on August 23. This video and these pictures cannot portray how bad the weather was. The wind was blowing really hard and it was raining like mad. So much for me ever listening to the weather report again which promised that there’d be no rain at the coast and only inland. So ofcourse when we drove back home from the Belgian coast the more inland we got the sunnier it was. But anyway, so here we were at the beach, freezing our asses off and blowing away, when my wife decides that seeing as she’s never hopped into the sea now is as good a time as any to do so. After declaring her positively insane, noblesse oblige, I agreed to run along.
And yes, that was cold. Shrivel your package to peanut size cold.
But hey, we did it and that was fun. Carpe diem and all that stuff. Continue reading →
Insane. I’d never heard of that before this weekend when Corvo showed us the entire Portal game. I log on to my gmail this morning and the first thing I see is “The cake is a lie”.
They’re after us!
It’s weekend, well really my ‘big’ vacation of the year seeing as our little adventure in the US cost me the rest of my vacation days. This weekend will be spent relaxing, being a translator during my wife’s language exam, going to the beach if the weather permits, working on my big idea for my second site and relaunching that, and rehashing the company’s website as they didn’t like the design and are thinking more along the lines of blinking lights. Yay. Yahtzee reviews Soul Calibur IV and yet I still want to play it, looking for a good feed aggregator I discovered Gregarius finally got an update after 2 years and I remembered I still had it installed on the site somewhere and someone else has apparently been using it all this time. I miss my music so I might have to hook me old server up this weekend seeing as that holds a backup of everything. I’m still liking this theme but I might make a new header, I want a new logo, a new t-shirt design, and a haircut. Where did all the funky new ajax webscripts go? Seems they all disappeared in the 2.0 bubble, they’re all startups instead of something we can run ourselves. Speaking of which, must not forget that I wanted to test Woopra for the new site. Should I wait to see if Google picks up on the proper gallery titles or should I implement this now? Must remember to log on to work before Zzz to reboot the Small Business Server. It’s quirky in that it fails to reboot on schedule. I need coffee.
So the official WordPress Theme Directory is finally reopened. Yay.
Now it would be nice if the demo / live preview blog showcased all the features that WordPress offers so we can actually see whether the themes support it.
I want to see subpages (and hell, more than 2 pages), I want to see gallery posts, posts with images left, center and right aligned. I want to see comments, gravatars, block quotes, code blocks, everything!
Another candidate for the ’some day someone will make something useful with java but not today’ award; wordle.net. Enter an url and it’ll parse all the words, filter out a bunch and present you with an image of word ‘art’, which you can then have endless useless fun with, playing around with the settings and mucking about.
I wish it would parse a bit more then just the recent few entries, as is quite obvious from how big the word Drobo ended up.
