That took surprisingly less effort than expected. I hope to clean it up a bit more and then officially announce it either today or tomorrow.

You know that it's a great idea that you have got there, and for the record I have been thinking of making something like that for myself too! But I have never come around to do so.. and I just don't know where to start, thehee.. :D
But good luck with your idea..

Come on, using one of those isn't the 'geek' thing to do. You have to make it yourself. I'm still undecided on sites like Gizmodo et al. On the one hand some of their posts are really interesting or entertaining, on the other hand I think their quality would go up a lot if making money wasn't their first objective.

actually, there are websites currently out there similar in practice to what you're looking to do. Check out these posts from Lifehacker:
http://lifehacker.com/software/homepage/alpha-geek-start+page-showdown-246843.php

Netvibes seems to be the favorite due to it's customability:
http://lifehacker.com/software/netvibes/alpha-geek-trick-out-your-netvibes-248671.php

Or maybe you're just following more than really is necessary? I mean, if most of the news isn't of any real interest, then why bother returning? Of course there's always that chance you could miss that one really interesting topic, but does it really matter at the end of the day? That's at least the question I ask myself when I'm adding a news site to my (small) list of sites that i frequent these days.

On that note, I follow:
Gizmodo - gadgets! and more gadgets!
Lifehacker - for my daily tweakage
Kotaku - for my gaming news
....and that's all i really have time for. Clearly I'm biased with the Gawker crew, but I enjoy their blogs, so why change?
