*snickers* I know, it’s old. But it popped up in my rss reader yesterday with perfect timing after my MacBook had totally locked up in just about every way he describes, so it made me laugh.
i abuse my macs all the time and i can’t remember the last time it locked up bad. Maybe a program didn’t like the amount of RAM left and would choke and i’d have to force quit it… but that’s the worst i’ve had. The last kernal panic i had was with my previous computer, 4 or 5 years ago. I guess I can attribute my good fortune by giving my computer a good check up every so often. I recommend running “repair permissions” and running DiskWarrior every so often or whenever you think the computer is acting strange. Those two combined havae worked strange miracles for me.

Ahahaha. That’s class. I’ve never used a mac, but I’ve heard they’re HELL for someone brought up on windows.
Yes. And no. They’re good fun and have a lot of advantages over Windows. But they’re computers… and anyone expecting them to be perfect is a tad naive.
Sluggy: I’m a linux guy, I don’t see the point of anything as vague as ‘repair permissions’ if I don’t know what the hell it does in detail and why. If someone needs to run a repair permissions thing on a regular basis there’s something inherently wrong with the operating system itself.
As for the lock up itself, don’t forget I’m using the notebook to sign on to a domain, with network folders and the whole lot, and that’s where OsX starts to fall flat on its face sometimes.
Hmm, maybe I’ll do a more elaborate review some time in the future. Or some sort of OS comparison according to me, hehe.
