Save Windows XP
Written on Feb 08, 2008 // Windows.Vista sucks, but Windows XP is going to be discontinued as of June 30 2008.
Sign this petition to let Microsoft know we want XP to stick around.
Close to 80000 people have signed it already, but it’s going to need a lot more votes to convince the big M.

Feb 08, 2008, 13:16I do realize that Vista is a resource hog compared to XP.
But surely it doesn’t suck. (in terms of home use, mind you)
For a work desktop, I might imagine XP to be more usefull. However Vista Basic might fit that bill aswell.
*spreads some Vista love* ;-)
Perhaps more people should upgrade their XP to Ubuntu, like I did…
*spreads some Linux love* :-D
Want Vista gloss, add Compiz Fusion to the mix.
Lots of eye candy and some of those effects even add to productivity.

Anyhoos, back to the subject of ‘Save Windows XP’…
I do agree that support is being terminated too fast.
That should have been atleast 1 year longer, imho.

Feb 08, 2008, 19:31Vista isn’t the resource hog that everyone thinks, It handles memory better than XP does. The only reasons uses over 500MB just sitting there because it pre-loads most apps into the memory, meaning it opens programs much faster than XP. But when it comes to games and whatnot, it stops all useless resource hogs to allow the game to use as much memory as possible.
I’ll be installing Vista(SP1) in March when SP1 is finalized and released to the public. Until then, I’m reserving my opinion of it.

Feb 08, 2008, 23:00Isn’t this just for the OEM? I read about it on PC World. All this means is that you can’t buy a new PC with WindowsXP on it. You will still be able to buy WindowsXP, and there will be support for it (Service Pack 3 is actually due soon). Support for Windows98 lasted all the way to last year…
I second the Linux. I was going to go with Vista, but I’ve decided to dual boot with Ubuntu and XP.
