The name is Heuts, Jos Heuts

but you can call me XIII. Weird isn’t it, how attached we become to names. I’ve now been online since about 1995 and back then nicknames were the most normal thing on the world wide web. So was common decency and respect, but that’s a topic for another entry. The point being, fast forward to 2007 and I’m a lot older and wiser *cough* and I visit a lot of sites these days where people just go by their real name instead of a nick. And sure, why not? It seems that on forums nicknames are still the way to go. But anno 2007 I do a lot more than just visit forums, and let’s face it, they seem to be dying a bit anyway. It’s always been a bit amusing to have people ask me what my ‘real’ name is and be all mysterious, especially back in ye golden days. Also I want to use this front page blog more as my central hub where I gather and combine everything from all the networking sites as well, many of which I use my real name on, such as on LinkedIn or the dutch (and slightly less obnoxious) version of MySpace called Hyves.
But I’ll still hang on to XIII, after all this time it just feels natural.
If you want to know more about me, my blog or the rest of the site, check out my

Aug 01, 2007, 9:02I knew this already lol.
Ironically enough, I started off using my real name and then slowly moved away from it. =P
Corvo
Aug 01, 2007, 9:40Omg. You have the same name as some guy that lives in a neighboring city.
Who would’ve thought that.
;-)
Okay, okay.. Anyhoos: I think of you more as XIII then Jos.
And, on the other hand: I think of myself more as Corvo then F*******.
Ha, censored :-)
Raven
Aug 01, 2007, 11:07Ha, yeah, it’s a common name right? I already know someone called that…
Lilmog
Aug 01, 2007, 12:41I think it’s the “ohshi-! Axe murderer internet psychos will find out where I live!” and so on and so forth that keeps people sticking to nicks. (Despite you’d probably give your full name if someone you’d just met asked you in a pub, but y’know). But it’s difficult to stick to when you sign your art or put credits on any videos you might upload, and it seems more professional to use a full name than a nick.
I was so worried I was going to slip and call Decay “Z” which was his nick back then, instead of Paul, since me and a mate always called him by his nick online before I met him =P Especially if I said that to a mate, considering our pervy IT tech at college called himself “Zee” so there’d be much confusion.
Raven
Aug 01, 2007, 15:56Yeah, funnily enough I call Garr by his nick instead of his actual name all the time, and vice versa… although it gets a little confusing for Garr since I go by both Haven and Raven.

Aug 01, 2007, 16:48Well, i do believe that XIII suits you well enough ^_~ But, the whole purpose of the internet is to be there without ever actually being there (just like a secret agent ^_^)
I don’t see the purpose in using your full name for stuff online.
Also, i already knew ye full name and address and telephone number ^_^ whois is great these days huh?
Which, another hint for you about the massive plot that i seem to be working on.. i had to look up said information so that i could get the appropriate … instruction i suppose you could say…
Julynell
Aug 01, 2007, 19:13Strange how people get somewhat ‘confused’ and use nick and real name obliviously..
I never caught myself doing that. In real life X is just Jos to me, Croga is Koen and so on.
I think I would not even react if someone would call me Julynell in real life ;)
No, in real life just call me by my birth name :)
I think people who just use a nick online and you never get to know their real name, they are either scared of things like Lilmog is saying or they got something to hide…

Aug 01, 2007, 19:20Personally I blink and look at a person awkwardly if they call me phyx(ette) or Humane.

Aug 01, 2007, 3:23hehehe…someone told me this tasty tidbit way back in the day. It’s never made a difference. And yah, X111 really does suit you. ^_^
croga
Aug 01, 2007, 9:42meh :) I’ve been going by the same nick for so long that most people on the net indeed know me as Croga rather then Koen. Even on the “community” sites like LinkedIn and Hyves I am known as Croga. I don’t think I could ever be known as Koen again.
Then again, Croga is basicaly just a translation of Koen anyway so it’s more of an internationalisation then a nick ;)

Aug 01, 2007, 20:36I know this is wierd, but I’m also more used to referring to you as XIII. I’ve been posting in message boards around you pretty much since I got an internet connection.
I like going by nicknames though, even though my personality doesn’t change with them.
