Gutenberg is gut

In case there are still people around who never heard of the Gutenberg project; awesome free books.

Most of these can be offered free of charge because they’re old enough that the copyright has expired. That doesn’t mean they’re crap, just old. Luckily old means (in general) good in the case of books.
H.G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare, Jules Verne, Alexandre Dumas, The Grimm brothers, Dostoyevsky, Bram Stoker, Agatha Christie & Mary Shelley to name but a very few of the massive amount of authors than can be found on there.

I usually grab mine through Apple’s iBook store (also for free).
I’m currently reading The memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It’s a nice collection of short stories, perfect for late night reading whenever insomnia hits.

Gutenberg (named after the inventor of the printing press) also offers books in other languages than english, for example I tried reading “De dood van Sherlock Holmes” in Dutch, which is quite quirky as it’s in older dutch, so there’s a lot of words and grammar use that seems weird these days. This version even includes ye olde pictures and ads that were printed in the book.

Anyway, I can recommend anyone heading over to the Gutenberg Top 100 list and have a look to see what you can find.
