Habari
Hmm, didn’t see that one coming, but what a way to start the year.
Apparently a group of people are a bit miffed about the direction WordPress is going and are now working on their own blogging project. What makes it interesting is that it’s not just any random group of people with names like Chris (who’s already running his site on Habari), Khaled & Michael involved.
Theoretically one might argue, as I read somewhere this weekend that it’s impossible for anyone to take on the might of WordPress. Which is why I think it’ll be fun to see Habari launch. Personally I think it has the potential to spread like wildfire. For starters WordPress is starting to smell a little funny recently after some incidents regarding wordpress.com. But more importantly I think the sheer ‘power’ of the people involved will push it. If the code is solid and it looks anything remotely close to the awesome stuff they’ve released in the past for WordPress you can bet your ass people will be switching in the blink of an eye. Gimme a proper converter and I know I will.
It would be awesome if it also had MU functionality out of the box so I could switch that over as well…. because aside from a few volunteers keeping the forum alive MU has had 0 support ever since the 1.0 release.
Time will tell, it’s always nice to see something new.

The current developer version of Habari has a rudimentary WordPress importer already, so migrating should be very easy if one wants to do that.
Thanks for the kind words, and the vote of confidence. We are excited about the challenges ahead, and I for one, can’t wait to see Habari out in the wild more.
The WP importer while rough, works like a charm. I had no troubles importing my site content into Habari.
And your site is beautiful. I would love to see this theme gracing the framework of Habari.
ok, this is getting a little creepy. is there some sort of phishing thing that sniffs out people posting their site links on other sites and then notifies them?
Here I am, trying to gather my wits up to tackle the whole wordpress customizing thing (and everything involved with it) and now another system, supposedly easier, announces itself with ties to WP. wtf. Slug’s next gen website launch is further setback further from whatever it was before. ;)
Oooo, since I’m just one of the mass of sheep, that just use things and knows nothing: Seems interesting, looks good so far. Can’t wait to see how it develops and such :D
